USTA LAUNCHES HIGH SCHOOL COACHES WEBSITE
www.hstennis.usta.com to Provide Year-Round Coaches Education
Online
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., May 1, 2003 - The USTA today announced
the launch of
www.hstennis.usta.com,
a new website within the USTA.com network
designed to
provide education based on the science of the sport as tested
by veteran
coaches for the community of 19,000 high school tennis coaches
nationwide.
The site features the latest information on physical training,
racquet
skills, on-court drills for development and advanced strategies
and tactics
from USTA staff and other industry experts. The site also hosts
an
interactive area devoted specifically to answering practical
questions from
coaches. In addition, there are a number of links available,
including USA
School Tennis, USA Team Tennis and schedules for USA Tennis
Development
Workshops and the Coaching Youth Tennis online course.
" We are excited to create a website to help advise
coaches on how to prepare
their teams and individual players on a year-round basis," said
Ron Woods,
Director, USTA Community Tennis Programs. "Increasing
our communication
with these mentors for the more than 300,000 high school tennis
players in
the U.S. is an important step towards continued participation
in the game
after graduation."
The USTA.com Network
consists of USTA.com, USOpen.org,
17 section websites
and more than 100 regional websites. It provides the latest
news and
information on tennis, from in-depth exclusive coverage of
the U.S. Open to
local community programs.
DEVELOPMENT COACH WORKSHOP The USTA is committed to providing
a meaningful and practical hands-on workshop for Development
Coaches in your community. We have identified and trained
an outstanding faculty consisting of certified tennis professionals,
with special emphasis on effectively handling large groups
of new or returning players of all ages, and getting them
to
play tennis quickly in a fun and social atmosphere.
Development Coach Workshops provide participants with a
solid foundation for:
•
effective team practices,
•
the Games Based Approach to Coaching,
•
teaching large groups, and
•
proper use of teaching aids. These entry-level workshops
are ideal for inexperienced teachers, seasonal coaches,
or anyone
else working with children or adults at the development
level. The United States Tennis Association does not certify
coaches
at this level, but we strongly encourage those who desire
more training and information to pursue certification with
either
the Professional Tennis Registry or the United States Professional
Tennis Association.
Development Coach Workshops emphasize fun ways to teach
USA Tennis programs for groups of both children and adults.
We
hope you will join us! Applications and scholarships are
on a first-come, first served basis.
Thank you for your interest!
